
Description
The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) is a non-for-profit and
non-governmental organization that works at the crossroads of livestock and
poverty, bringing high-quality science and capacity-building to bear on poverty
reduction and sustainable development. ILRI works in partnerships and
alliances with other organizations, national and international, in livestock
research, training, and information. ILRI is a member of the Consortium of
CGIAR Centers that conducts food and environmental research to help alleviate
poverty and increase food security while protecting the natural resource base.
Purpose
To work at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality
science and capacity-building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable
development for poor livestock keepers and their communities.
Scope International – Regional focus in developing regions of Africa and Asia.
Primary Funders
ILRI has over 50 international investors to include government agencies, nonprofit
organizations, research institutions, and industry.
Participants & Key Collaborators
ILRI has over 165 international partners and employs over 700 staff from about
40 countries that represent some 30 disciplines (the majority of staff, around
600, are from Kenya and Ethiopia).
Definition of One Health
None. However, ILRI's current strategy captures the principles of One Health
recognizing the connection between livestock, human, and environmental
health.
Monitoring & Evaluation Strategy
ILRI has an Internal Audit Unit with the principal business objectives of:
providing advisory services to assist ILRI's management in meeting its
objectives; carrying out audit assignments on identified areas based on the risks
faced by ILRI; and carrying out audit investigations on the request of ILRI
management or the ILRI Board of Trustees.
