ISID is committed to improving the care of patients with infectious diseases, the training of clinicians and researchers in infectious diseases and microbiology, and the control of infectious diseases around the world. 


3.    Purpose/Mission:

The Society recognizes that infectious diseases cross all national and regional and species boundaries and that effective long-term solutions require international scientific exchange and cooperation.

The ISID program, ProMED-mail, is a free Internet-based reporting system with 60,000+ subscribers dedicated to rapid global dissemination of information on outbreaks of infectious diseases and acute exposures to toxins that affect human health, including those in animals and in plants grown for food or animal feed. Moderated electronic communications enable ProMED-mail to provide up-to-date and reliable news about threats to human, animal, and food plant health around the world, 7 days a week.

5.    Scope:


ISID’s program, ProMED-mail, reports globally on outbreaks and emerging infectious diseases in humans, other animals and agricultural plants. ProMED-mail is available for free in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and French, and regional reports cover countries in Southeast Asia bordering the Mekong river and in Africa.

Funding is from our members and subscribers, meeting participants, from grant funding and a variety of other sources.

ISID sponsors two biennial meetings. The International Meeting on Emerging Diseases and Surveillance (IMED) has been a summit that unifies the approach to pathogens in the broadest ecological context. Drawing together human and veterinary health specialists, IMED serves as a true One Health forum where those working in diverse specialties and diverse regions can meet, discuss, present and challenge one another with findings and new ideas. The International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID) is a scientific assembly held in different world regions for the exchange of research and clinical information in infectious diseases and open to any interested individual.
