Responsibilities: The Saint Louis Zoo Institute for Conservation Medicine (ICM) is seeking a full-time, temporary research fellow. The start date will be between June and September 2018 and is a 3-year position. Job responsibilities will include participating in all ICM programs with a majority of time working on Africa-related projects. These may include ICM and WildCare Institute (WCI) programs based in the Horn of Africa, the Sahel region, and Madagascar. The successful candidate will work with ICM and WCI staff and be responsible for furthering the mission of the ICM, which is to take a holistic (One Health) approach to research on wildlife, public health, and sustainable ecosystems to ensure healthy animals and healthy people. The person will be required to write grants, perform veterinary and ecological field studies, analyze and write scientific papers, and lecture within One Health courses offered through the ICM along with partner universities.
Qualifications: A DVM or equivalent is required. Preference will go to candidates who also have a MS, MPH, or PhD degree and/or board certification in the American College of Zoological Medicine. The candidate must have strong clinical and research skills, grant-writing skills, and s/he must be able to work well with others, both at the Zoo and in the field. Field based conservation experience is also preferred. Excellent organizational skills as well as regular presentation of findings to team members and Zoo staff is also required. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
