CDC Celebrates National Pet Week – May 7-13

Did you know that most households in the United States have at least one pet? Pets are an important part of our lives. Whether it’s your jogging buddy, couch companion, or quiet confidante, pets are there for us when we need them. Pets help us stay happy and healthy--keeping your pet healthy can help keep you healthy, too!

3 Things to Know

  • Studies have shown that the bond between people and their pets can increase physical activity, lower stress, and bring happiness to their families.
  • Pets can help us get active and be more social. And that can translate to health benefits for you and your family, such as lower blood pressure and decreased feelings of depression.
  • However, some pets can carry harmful germs that can make people sick, even when the pet appears healthy. That’s why it’s important to do your research when thinking about adding a pet to your home. There is a right pet out there for everyone, but not all pets are right for all people.
