World Medical Association (WMA) and World Veterinary Association (WVA) sign One Health-focused Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

8 July, 2025.  Washington, D.C. During the WVA General Assembly, a new MOU was signed between the WVA and WMA by WVA President Dr John de Jong, D.V.M. and WMA Chair of Council Jack Resneck, Jr, MD, reinforcing their shared commitment to One Health.

Together, the two organizations are tackling global challenges like One Welfare & AMR, in alignment with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) for a stronger future for human, animal & environmental health. “Section 1: Global Development Objectives - Enhance Focus on One Health…..The Parties will collaborate in the One Health concept, which is a unified approach to veterinary and human medicine [veterinarians and physicians] in order to improve Global Health. This collaboration will place an increased emphasis on the fundamental importance of One Health in addressing complex, interconnected global health challenges, reinforcing its centrality to the joint efforts of both organisations, and aligning with the WVA’s collaborative agreement with WHO.”
