The international summer course One Health aims to provide knowledge, skills and competences regarding efficient solutions to the multifaceted global challenges to human, animal and environmental health through cross- disciplinary research, education and collaboration between relevant institutions and stakeholders. The summer course primarily focuses on zoonoses, emerging diseases, and emerging health-related problems (drug resistance, toxins, pollution, etc.).
The Summer Course provides insight into and a critical overview of the methods used in the One Health approach by drawing on the successful Danish and/or international achievements characterized by widely cross-disciplinary collaboration between public authorities, public administrations, research bodies and industry sectors.
The Summer Course is composed of two modules; a 5-weeks e-learning module dealing with weekly assignments (video lectures, quizzes, exercises and on-line discussions) and a 1-week on-campus part with lectures, exercises and group work.
Participants
The summer course is open to Danish and International students with a completed BSc Degree. The course is offered as a master’s course and is also open to PhD students and postgraduates. The language of instruction is English. A good command of English is therefore required.

Course structure and teaching methods
The One Health Summer Course is designed to combine the best from e-learning with the best from on-campus learning. The Summer Course begins with a 5-week internet-based module (e-learning) in May-June 2016 followed by a 1-week long on-campus module in August.
The teaching involves a combination of lectures, quizzes, exercises and group work. During the on campus part, mornings will be used for general introductions to One Health concepts and approaches focusing on generic models, e.g. disease surveillance, source identification, risk assessment, prevention and control models.
Afternoons will mainly be spent working with case-based interdisciplinary group work about e.g. antimicrobial resistance, salmonella, influenza, mycotoxins as well as parasitic zoonoses and excursions. There will be many presenters and case-facilitators with expertise in a wide range of topics of relevance for One Health.
Credits and form of exam
A total of 5 ECTS credit points are awarded upon completion of the course. Form of exams: Evaluation of oral presentation and discussion of case. Online self-assessment of e-learning module. Grading: Pass/Fail.
Who are we?
The One Health Summer Course is offered in collaboration between University of Copenhagen (UCPH) and Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and is part of the "Food Sciences Copenhagen (FoSCo)" strategic collaboration, which promotes interdisciplinary scientific exellence in the field of public health, food and veterinary science, and associated technical and life sciences.
Organisers and lecturers come mainly from UCPH and DTU. There will also be speakers well-known in their fields from other research institutions and international organisations such as the EU Commission, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Tuition fee
Internal students: Students from Danish universities will not be charged any tuition fee provided that the course is accepted as part of their MSc programme. Danish students must provide a pre-approval of credit transfer upon application.
Students enrolled in certain programmes at UCPH do not require a pre-approval of credit transfer. Please study the list of programmes that are exempted from pre-approval.
External students: EU/EAA citizens: 5000 DKK, Non- EU/EAA citizens: 9000 DKK
The fee covers participation in the course. It does not cover course materials, travel, accommodation and living expenses during the course. Full payment of course fees must be transferred in May 2016. Payment details will be forwarded upon acceptance.
Please note: Exchange students from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences', UCPH, partner universities can participate in this course free of charge, if they have been nominated by their home university. The course must be an integrated part of their study programme.

Ph.d. students who wish to participate should also use the above mentioned application form.

Why One Health
The One Health approach seeks to improve the health and wellbeing for humans, animals and the environment through innovative, intersectoral, and interprogrammatic development. One Health not only implies involvement of different sciences, but is also an approach which encourages coordination, communication, data sharing and joint efforts between the involved parties. In many countries, this requires development of new ways of handling challenges such as food security and safety, emerging and endemic zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial and drug resistance, climate change and different types of enivronmental pollutants. Demark has a long tradition of using One Health approaches and is among the world leading in pursuing good solutions to serval of these challenges.
